Subject: Quicksand?
To give this film more credit than it deserves, it can be likened to Adam and Eve. The hapless Adam in "Quicksand" is Dan Brady, an automechanic, played
...
by Mickey Rooney. He bites the apple by helping himself to $20 from the cash register at work so he can spend the night on the town with the temptress, Eve (Vera, in the film). From there, his expulsion from Eden is inevitable.
There are several problems with "Quicksand." The most obvious is Mickey Rooney. He is too tiny (shorter than both his leading ladies) and too cute. He lacks any shading to make him either believable or sympathetic as a man caught in a trap of his own making. It doesn't help that the character he plays is a dumb bunny. That leads us to the second problem: the script is literally incredible, i.e., impossible to believe. Third, the film looks like it was borrowed from the outtakes of Fritz Lang's brain. Instead of giving us film noir quivers, "Quicksand" looks like a hodgepodge of cliches--a definite must-miss.

This was pretty good all things considered! Interesting to see Jack Elam as an extra in the bar when Danny sees the drunk with the fat wallet...watch for

him.

Rooney and Lorrie are greta in this film. But I thought I would note thatthe Free DVD Authoring program that keeps getting plugged did not work for me.
...
Maybe it is because I have Windows 7. I was able to use The Nero 8 Dvd authoring tool with no problems. So I was able to make a DVD of this from the mpeg2 file.

This is a great film with an interesting story. Rooney and Lorre really work well together, I feel. Unfortunately, though, at about 5 minutes into the
...
film there is some skipping/stuttering in all the files I downloaded (both MPEGs and the 254 MP4). After it clears, it's fine to the end.
My 5 Stars is for the film, and does not consider the file glitch.

My download played, the time meter recorded, while the image and sound didn't move. The picture and soumd kept sticking as if snaged in quicksand. It appeared
...
to get better then it snaged again. I played it with a DVD copy I made from it on my TV, when I first watched it, so I tried watching it from the computer file I had but it was exacly the same. It appeared to be a promissing show to watch with good reviews and an star filled cast of actors but it wasn't. It appears to me from what I landed up with after downloading the MPEG 2 file that it was a waste of my time.

Yes, this combination was hard to get my brain around at first, but it works - Rooney is excellent and surprisingly believeable as the slightly shady character
...
he plays. Peter Lorre as a nasty amusement arcade owner is another great added attraction, and the film kept me gripped throughout. Recommended.

At the IMDB someone stated that Mickey disliked this flick. I can't understand why. He did a superb job. Well worth the view.
